The Story of Elliot & Sarah
Small beginnings
Our story began in 2015, living in a tiny, one bedroom condo in Joliet. Our dream was to grow our own food, our motto was ‘use the space you have the best you can’. We bought a planter box, and then another, and another, and finally decided to build one. We were new, we didn’t know what to do, we struggled… but it felt exciting. In the end we were rewarded with several modest harvests.
Moving on up
Fast forward a few years to 2018 as we looked to move our growing family further from the suburbs, ending up in the small Illinois River town of Seneca. We had a tiny backyard, but once again lived up to our motto and turned it into raised garden beds.
We successfully grew herbs, tomatoes, garlic and other vegetables and enjoyed the fruit of our labors. We started to learn about microgreens and began growing on racks in our living room. It was a great way to produce nutritious food with limited space and satisfy our green thumb no matter what season.
Settling Down
2022 found us looking to move again, and we finally found ourselves actually living in the country with the space for a large garden, chickens and plenty of new dreams and possibilities.
We love Lanark and the surrounding area and the opportunities it has given us to live a simpler life. We have truly found a place in which we can put down roots and pursue more of the dreams and opportunities to produce food for our family and our community.
We still have much to learn and experience as we pursue this farm dream for our family, but we hope we can share some of our best products with you along the way.
